 AMAG operates two continuous heat treatment lines for heat-treatable alloys, where strip is continuously and economically heat-treated, and hardened and tempered, in a globally unique thickness range of 0.3–8 mm, providing our customers with a major advantage because the strip can be continuously processed in their process steps, which is more efficient and economical than sheet processing.

AMAG TopForm® UHS

 

AMAG TopForm® UHS (Ultra High Strength) - an alloy optimized for semi-warm forming.

Special casting, rolling and heat treatment processes ensure good forming at moderate temperatures and
a reduced tendency to ageing, which results in a low loss of strength.

 

In general the warm forming of AMAG TopFormR UHS is completed in a fully hardened T6 temper in the 200°C temperature range.The forming speed used is comparable with that of conventional cold aluminium forming, but with a far greater forming capacity. Limited exposure to heat prevents overageing effects and thus the very high mechanical parameters of the original material can be transferred to the component without further heat treatment.

 

The use of AMAG TopForm® UHS for side impact beams in the BMW i8 is a recent application (see AluReport 3/2014)

AMAG GREEN ALU

 

First ever application of AMAG aluminium sheet with a recyclate proportion in excess of 90 % in the automotive industry

 

 Aluminium can be recycled any number of times without loss of quality. This benefits the environment as the recycling of aluminium conserves raw materials and saves some 95 percent of the energy needed for primary production. The trunk recess for the Mercedes-Benz SL made from "AMAG Green Alu" is a typical example of a high-grade recyclate alloy being used in a meaningful way to produce stamping parts from sheet metal.

CRASHMANAGEMENT

 

The AMAG advantage: Super-high-strength and higher-strength aluminium alloys, ideally tailored to suit requirements.

 

AMAG TopFormR UHS also delivers high crash management performance. Its specific strength is comparable to that of press-hardened super-high-strength steels, and it has significantly higher residual strain. Accordingly, the material exhibits extremely high energy absorption capacity and favorable bending and buckling behavior during a crash. For 6xxx-series alloys, the crash performance is also essentially improved by customized thermomechanical treatment processes in the rolling mill.

AMAG TopCast® FAST

 

Innovative cast alloys for chassis and structure.

 

 AMAG was involved as early as in the development process for an adequate aluminium alloy to be used for the production of chassis and structural components at BMW‘s Landshut light-metal foundry. e components had to meet structural and dynamic as well as sustainability requirements. e minimum content of recycled material in this alloy is 20%, and the remainder consists of alloying metals and primary metal produced using at least 97% electricity generated from hydropower. As a result of that cooperation, a longterm agreement was signed for the supply of liquid aluminium as a raw material for the production of high-quality, sustainable structural components for this trend-setting electric vehicle.
